Grande Champagne
1er Cru
An exceedingly mellow blend of cognac from the terroirs of Fin Bois and Petite Champagne. Amber coloured, with a soft elegance and warmth, this cognac has aged in oak barrels for 30 years whilst slowly and quietly developing into a superbly nuanced vintage cognac. This process has created a spirit which still retains its vigour and personality and deserves to be tasted just as it is. Whilst the big cognac houses often subsume cognac stocks into huge generic blends where individual flavours are completely lost this is a cognac that deserves to be tasted just as it is. or saved for posterity.
This pure unblended Cognac, over 38 years of age, has a rare depth and intensity. Distilled exclusively from grapes grown in the fabled area of Archaic in Petite Champagne this is a Cognac that has strong, woody notes with a complex and well balanced bouquet of fruity floral savours that culminate in a wonderful taste of rancio (maderisation). This is a taste phenomenon that occurs only in very well aged Cognacs and just a very limited amount remains available.
Reserve de la Propriete
A delicate blend of different cognac growths married from vital parcels of Grande and Petite Champagne. Aged for at least 40 years in Limousin oak before being transferred into wax-sealed demijohns and then placed in le Paradis, the secret cellar where the oldest and rarest Cognacs are kept in ideal conditions. An immensely enjoyable Cognac free from any additions with a distinctive personality and an eloquent, concentrated bouquet with aromas and flavors that provide a true sensory journey.
A very old delicate spirit from Petite Champagne with a light , bright mahogany appearance. The palate is round and soft offering a long , supple and well-balanced finish. The qualities and characteristics of this ardent, uncompromising single growth are a result of maturation in oak for more than 40 years. Natural evaporation of the 70% eaux de vie in the barrel, somtimes called the "Angel's share" , has tamed the raw spirit whilst refining the aroma. The result is a glowing Cognac that has no aggressive notes to attack the palate .
With a minimum age of 70 years and blended from three sequential pre-war Grande Champagne growths, this is the family treasure, Concealled in a cellar to avoid its confiscation during the war, two barrels remained untouched until discovered by the present proprietor during the course of renovation work in 1992 . A recent tasting reveals delicate floral tones together with aromas of honey and vine canes and, of course, the incomparable "rancios" so beloved by connoisseurs. Verily, this is liquid history.
